Our History and Governance
Jogjakarta Community School (JCS) was established in 2012 by Yayasan Suluh Semesta (YSS) to provide high-quality, English-medium international education for both Indonesian and expatriate children in Jogjakarta.
JCS uses the UK Pearson Edexcel curriculum and our older learners sit internationally recognised IGCSE and A Level examinations as we are an approved Pearson Edexcel Examination Centre.
As a not-for-profit school, JCS is governed by a parent and community-elected Board of Governors, supported by the YSS Trustees. Together with school leadership and staff, they guide and support the strategic development of JCS.
Since opening, the school has continued to grow. In 2017, we moved to our purpose-built campus in north Jogjakarta, set on spacious grounds designed to provide a safe, welcoming and inspiring environment for learning.
In October 2024, our Multi-Purpose Space (MPS) was opened, while in January 2026, we will celebrate the opening of our new Learning Block alongside our original Learning Block.
Community Engagement
JCS is a community school with a learner-centred approach, ensuring every learner is recognised as an individual and encouraged to explore new experiences, develop confidence, and grow into a lifelong learner.
We are committed to environmentally mindful practices. Our campus was designed with sustainability in mind, considering orientation, materials and the school’s connection to its surroundings, while maintaining high standards of safety and security.
Under the leadership of YSS and the Board of Governors, JCS remains committed to the principles on which it was founded. We continue to serve our learners, families and wider community of Jogjakarta with pride and purpose.
