Our History and Governance

Yayasan Suluh Semesta established Jogjakarta Community School in September 2012 to provide English language British based education for expatriate and Indonesian children in the Jogjakarta area. Our children follow the National Curriculum of England and Wales and our older students sit the internationally recognised iGCSE examinations and A level advanced examinations through Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).

JCS operates as a ‘not for profit’ organisation. The school is supported and governed by a parent and community elected Board of Governors. The school and Board are further supported by our Trustees, the original founders who operate through Yayasan Suluh Semesta (YSS).

Our YSS Trustees and Board members work with the teaching staff to support the school’s strategic plan. Since our doors opened to students and through the support of everyone within the JCS community, school numbers have grown and in January 2017, the school moved to a new purpose-built site in the north of the city. The school is set in its own grounds with spacious green land for further development.

Community Engagement and Support.

Our child-centred approach to education ensures each child is treated as an individual, fostering a positive approach to lifelong learning, where children are encouraged to embrace new experiences and developing their potential.

As a school we aspire to live an environmentally mindful life with a low carbon footprint. The design of the new site was given careful consideration to its aspect, the materials used and to the school’s place in the local community; all without compromising safety and security.

JCS, under the umbrella of YSS and the Board, will strive to meet the objectives set out in its current strategic plan and in the ones that follow. It will promote the three pillars on which it was founded with pride and determination and will continue to serve the children, families and community of Jogjakarta.
